Our story began in 1985 when the Japanese semiconductor market opened to distribution. Up until then, if you needed to repair a piece of electronic equipment, you had to buy ECG replacement semiconductors. When Global Semiconductors was born, we specialized in importing Japanese original semiconductors for the electronics repair industry in Canada. Over the years, we have expanded our product line to include capacitors, resistors, fuses and more. In 1994 we changed the name of the company to Global Electronics Supplies to reflect our expanded inventory. Over the years, the company continued to grow, and we became the authorized parts distributor for many OEM’s including RCA, JVC, Kenwood, SONY, Hitachi and more. The VCR repair business continued to flourish through out the early 1990’s and our impact on the electronics distribution industry grew.
In the early 2000’s, the introduction of the flat screen LCD TV brought many challenges to the repair business, as replacement parts were not available. Global, now Best Buy Canada’s exclusive parts supplier, reached an agreement to partner with Best Buy and reclaim parts from damaged and discarded TV’s. The first harvested TV board business in Canada provided inexpensive parts for TV repairs and kept electronic waste out of landfills.
In the 2010’s the repair business collapsed, and everything became disposable. The parts business declined.
We retooled and in 2014, Consumer Parts Source was launched to focus on the niche market of network servicers who still provided repairs to home electronic equipment. With the renewed interest in retro equipment and an upswing in the market, people soon began to repair record players and old audio receivers again.
Repair cafés sprung up all over the country and a movement to keep items out of landfills through repair began.
In 2023 we launched Vintage Audio Parts, a name which better represents the bulk of our business. We specialize in parts for Vintage Audio Electronics. With over 35 years of experience in the industry we have come full circle and returned to our roots that started in 1985.
